While some crime categories are showing promising statistical movements, others remain a stubborn stain, according to Premier Sihle Zikalala.
At a briefing in Durban on Wednesday, he said from October 2019 to March 2020 there were decreases in key crime areas - thanks to anti-crime strategies.
The Premier also says from April to September this year - there was an overall reduction of 20,2% in community reported crimes.
He says inter-border crimes and gender-based violence remain stubbornly high in the province.
"National government has identified 30 gender-based violence and femicide hotspots across the country.
"Six of these hotspots are located in the province and they include: Umlazi, Empangeni, Ntuzuma, Osizweni, KwaMashu and Inanda, - which is sadly also known as the rape capital of the country."
